Our Vision is to provide a loving supportive environment for the dying & their families by offering comfort care and specialized services to help meet physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the patient and family. Our philosophy of care is focused on pain & symptom management. We recognize that the intent is no longer on reversing the disease or finding a cure. We provide strong advocacy in the support of dignity, choice & quality of life. We recognize dying as a normal part of life. Our emphasis is on helping to make whatever time remains as peaceful and meaningful as possible. Who is Eligible for Hospice – Hospice serves patients of all ages, income, faiths and ethnicities who have: § An anticipated life expectancy of six months or less.§ A treatment goal based on comfort rather than cure.§ Any type of terminal illness including heart and lung disease; cancer; dementia; neurological disease and other life limiting conditions.à Who Pays for Hospice – Hospice coverage through Medicare and Medicaid provides extensive benefits that pay for medications, equipment and supplies, Physician service, Nurses, Social Workers, and other therapies that are related to the terminal illness. Most commercial insurance providers also cover hospice care. No person is turned away due to inability to pay.à A Team Approach – Hospice provides physical, emotional & spiritual support to terminally ill patients and their families. Working together, patients, families and the interdisciplinary hospice team create a plan of care based on the patient’s wishes.§ Registered Nurses (RN) – assess the patient’s condition, teach caregivers routine care, and provide comfort through pain management and symptom control. Hospice nurses have regular contact with the patient’s physician to discuss and update the plan of care, and are on call 24 hours a day to respond to patients needs or make a visit.§ Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) – help patients with daily personal care activities such as bathing, grooming, changing linens, etc.§ Certified Social Workers (SW) – counsel patients and families through the emotional, social and financial stresses that accompany a life-limiting illness. Social Workers also coordinate community resources as needed, including grief services.§ Bereavement Counselors – offer support to family members prior to and for up to 13 months following the patient’s death, through phone contact, group support and one-on-one counseling.§ Chaplains – work with patient’s spiritual care providers to bring additional support for both patient and family. Chaplains may also provide primary spiritual counseling as requested.§ Volunteers – help with a variety of support for patient’s families and hospice staff.à Bereavement for Those Who are Grieving – Marquardt Hospice offers family members free bereavement services for up to 13 months after the death of a patient. Ongoing support includes one –on-one counseling, group counseling and referrals.
